Tim Murphy’s recently released novel Christadora centers around the real-life New York apartment building at the corner of Avenue B and East 9th Street. Iggy Pop lived there. So did Vincent D’Onofrio and Brazilian pop star Marisa Monte. But the book centers around fictional East Village denizens, an ambitious familiy and an addicted Puerto Rican AIDS activist. Murphy has covered HIV/AIDS as a journalist for twenty years, but this critically acclaimed debut novel focuses on how the AIDS crisis effects New Yorkers from the tumultuous, terrifying 1980s through the steamy economic bubble of the 2020s.
