Ladders are central to the work of wood carver Lin Lisberger, a Maine artist whose work suggests the danger of ascension: a thin but solid staircase leading to the middle of a knotty, bowing tightrope, or a ladder to nowhere rising stubbornly from a small canoe. It’s gloomier than it is inspirational, but it’s interesting. Back in the corner, Leslie Atik places pink hang tags atop a chalkboard covered with Gertrude Stein’s words about how a rose is a rose. The other gallery walls are filled by Christina Massey’s paintings, textured pieces that incorporate strips of discarded clothing.
