Over three dozen artists participated in Uncover, a nifty exhibit of art made from discarded book covers. Organized by Babs Owen (Periphery Space) and Paper Nautilus owner Kristin Sollenberger, the show presents a sort of who’s who of Rhode Island artists – painters, sculptors, textile artists, and printmakers – and the resulting work has a fair amount of variation. (Markus Berger’s book encased in concrete jumps out immediately.) My only gripe is that the spatial restrictions of Paper Nautilus mean that you can’t get really close to some of the book covers, many of which seem to demand a close viewing. There’s an opening reception Thursday from 6-8pm. Otherwise, the bookstore’s open at 10am.
