Unladylike2020 at Southside Cultural Center

Sissieretta Jones was a renowned 19thcentury soprano who’s had a recent resurgence of popularity; Annie Smith Peck was a suffragist and mountain climber who scaled the Peruvian Andes in her sixties. Both women were raised in Providence, and both are featured in UNLADYLIKE2020, an animated series of documentary shorts commemorating the 100thanniversary of women’s suffrage. This preview event includes a research presentation by series creator Charlotte Mangin; a sneak peek of the first episode of UNLADYLIKE2010, which is about African American aviator Bessie Coleman; and a panel discussion touching on women’s history, African American history, Rhode Island history, and women’s empowerment.
