Paul Slade Smith’s 2006 comedy Unnecessary Farce has all the elements you need for a light summer comedy: dopey cops, Scottish accents, a man and a woman alone together, and a hotel room with a lot of doors for people to bolt in and out of. The production at Contemporary Theater Company opened on Friday and I haven’t seen it yet, though it seems goofy enough that it might be worth a try. The show runs Fridays and Saturdays only. For something completely different, Wednesdays and Sundays are given to a free outdoor production of Romeo and Juliet along the lovely Saugatucket River.
