The first date that I ever went on was a trip to see Todd Haynes’ raucous glam extravaganza Velvet Goldmine. Two gay teenaged Anglophile movie nerds, we were blown away by the soundtrack (Pulp! Placebo! Radiohead’s Thom Yorke doing Roxy Music covers!) as we were by Ewan McGregor’s floppy full frontal stage show. It seems perverse to watch it again as an adult in a suburban library, but that’s what’s happening when Warwick Public Library kicks off its month-long series dedicated to glam and punk. (They’re also showing The Runaways, Rock ‘n’ Roll High School, and Repo Man.)
If glam isn’t your thing, check out the Movie Lounge for other options. Today there’s a lot of special screenings.
