I’m very excited for Steve McQueen’s Widows, which has been out for a couple of weeks now but which I haven’t gotten to see yet. The reviews are mostly glowing, praising the movie both as a feminist heist film (it was co-written by Gone Girl writer Gillian Flynn) and as a politicial drama about race in 21stcentury Chicago (the other writer is Twelve Years a Slave director Steve McQueen). It also stars Central Falls native/RIC grad Viola Davis as the leader of a gang of women trying to steal $2 million to replace money stolen by dead gangster Liam Neeson.
