On September 4, writers across the country are participating in a series of readings/fundraisers for the group Writers for Migrant Justice. The goal is to bolster the groundwork being done to support detained / formerly detained migrants, and local organizers are hoping to make $500 to help pay bails set for detained migrants, reunite separated migrant families, cover legal and relocation costs, provide families with acute needs, and fund temporary housing stipends for refugees. Organized by Publicly Complex, the Providence reading includes Tina Cane, Mary-Kim Arnold, Sebastián Castro Niculescu, Ada Smailbegovic, Chrysanthemum Tran, and Sonia ~Ascawawa.
Tickets are $5 to $20 (sliding scale), although they probably wouldn’t say no if you wanted to donate more than that. If you can’t make the reading but still want to donate, you can!
