Thirteen local writers have signed on to participate in Writers Resist: Rhode Island, a literary happening that’s locally organized by Salve Regina Writer in Residence Jen McClanaghan. She calls the event a “re-inauguration of mercy, equality, free speech, and the fundamental ideals of democracy.” Seventy such events are being held simultaneously around the world, from Boston and Portland to Hong Kong and Singapore. The local talent includes Rhode Island Poet Laureate Tina Cane, Mary Cappello, Darcie Dennigan, Christopher Johnson, Erica Mena, Patch Tseng Putterman, Sussy Santana, Kate Schapira, and a bunch more. The free reading will be followed by an open mic.
