Your Ocean, My Ocean

Your Ocean, My Ocean is an ongoing project housed at UC Irvine’s Institute for 21st Century Creativity, though this particular event is an 80-minute performance that combines dance, live violin, prerecorded strings and voices, animation, immersive video projection, and probably other things that got lost in one jam-packed press release. (RISD Architecture students, maybe?) The main gist is that our oceans are beautiful but also vulnerable—two facts you hopefully know already—as humans pollute and overfish the waters. It might be good? The performance premiered in Irvine in February, though I couldn’t find any reviews. The press release makes it sound overly academic and pretty corny—there’s a dancer in a black cape who represents an oil slick?—but obviously it all depends on the actual choreography and music and everything.
Advance registration is required, although the event is still first come, first served.
