This Week at the Movies

Four pieces of movie/TV news this week:

  1. Acoustic Java opens today in the old Cable Car Cinema space. Billing itself as a café and microcinema (hmmm…), they’ll be showing a lot of international classics. They open tonight with Agnes Varda’s classic Cleo from 5 to 7.
  2. Providence Latin American Film Festival runs September 20–28. Visit PLAFF.org for schedule and film descriptions.
  3. Saturday is the Smithsonian’s Museum Day, and over two dozen local museums are taking part with special programs and free admission. Woonsocket’s Museum of Work and Culture will be screening two episodes of Smithsonian Channel’s Rock ‘N’ Roll Inventions series, at 10am and 1pm.
  4. Season 5 of Poldark won’t premiere on Masterpiece until the end of the month, but RI PBS has an early screening next Wednesday. It’s free, but you need to register by Sunday.
